The Carrigan Family Session

I met the Carrigan family at their home on a gorgeous afternoon in late fall. The beautiful backyard and rich, vibrant colors of the trees made it the perfect backdrop for their family photography session.

I was thrilled when Lisa reached out to me about doing a session with her growing family. Lisa is a prolific quilter and seamstress, so I just knew she would bring her creativity to our session! Boy, was I right! Lisa not only brought one of her beautiful quilts, but she also made the baby hats, the baby sweaters, and even her own gorgeous fall-colored poncho! We were able to incorporate her beautiful work into her family photos, making the pictures even more memorable for her family.

The Authentic Moments of Family Photography

My favorite part of family photography is not only capturing those classic “hang on the wall” portraits but also the in-between moments of joy and laughter. There are so many times that little ones run off and do their own thing. I always ask mom and dad to just relax, let them go, and enjoy the fun of being together. This way, we encapsulate authentic smiles and honest moments in time. Many of my favorite photos from this shoot are of the cousins just doing their thing! Putting them in the wagon created some of the family’s favorites too! The girls never quite sat for a smile but played, laughed, and even tried to eat the pumpkins we had set up to photograph! But I think their favorite was the tractor ride afterwards (as evidenced by those beautiful smiles)!

Fall is no doubt a wonderful time to be a family photographer. The beautiful follage creates surreal colors with bold oranges, reds, and yellows all around. It conjures up feelings of warm apple cider, snuggly sweaters, and togetherness. Most of all, however, family photography reminds us to be thankful for all that we have. I am thankful that Lisa contacted me to photograph her beautiful family. I look forward to watching her family grow and continuing to photograph them.
